Being your child's tutor
I want to tell you something important about being your child’s current/future tutor: I appreciate you!
Three little words we all need to hear more often. We say it when we really mean it and for me it is another way of me saying ‘I like you'. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with every child I teach and wanted you to know that.
On a personal note: I always tried to please my teachers so I could feel likeable. I can still remember at the age of 8 walking into my 4th grade classroom and seeing the warm fuzzy on the back of my chair!
Instantly I knew, Mrs Sawin liked me. I thought she was amazing and could't wait to be a teacher, just-like-her.
(By the way, she was the same favourite teacher who was there… 14 years later, on the day I got my first teaching job!)
So why am I telling you this story?
Jigsaw Phonics with Kara
Well, it's because I got that same warm fuzzy feeling yesterday when I received a package from Sandra, my awesome tutoring coach at Jigsaw Phonics Tutoring.
And yes! She was right, Puzzle the panda, Wug the alien and Trick the robot were exactly what I needed.
I couldn’t stop smiling when I put my lanyard and badge on. I am so proud to be a Jigsaw Phonics Tutor and Tutor Like a Pro member!
Reading Tuition and Phonics Small Group Tutoring
For the past 6 months, I’ve been working on a new chapter in my tutoring business-making the change to focusing on reading tuition and offering phonics small group tutoring.
It’s exciting because after joining the Tutor Like a Pro programme offered by Sandra at Jigsaw Phonics Tutoring, I have learnt how to:
*tutor as a phonics expert
grow my tutoring business
be part of a community
Each week I take part in online recorded meetings that not only offer me value to my own tutoring business and clients but also to the other members. So I feel a real sense of community that what I am doing matters.
Bespoke Phonics Lessons
I also have fantastic tutoring resources like the exclusive phonics lessons with the three amigos-Puzzle, Wug and Trick.
The lessons are fun and interactive-making teaching children how to read with confidence, a dream.
Sandra sent me these cute figurines featuring the Jigsaw Phonics characters.
Motivational postcards and Jigsaw Phonics Stickers
She also sent these motivational postcards and stickers to show her appreciation for working with me.
So I can't wait to send them to my new clients to show my own appreciation!
Amazing Tutoring Coach
But to be honest…
My greatest asset has been Sandra. She has been my biggest cheerleader on my tutoring journey and an amazing coach.
It has been a pleasure working with her.
So, for that… I appreciate her and yes, I like her too!
Thank you Sandra, for everything you do. I will return the favour and be the biggest cheerleader for children learning to read!
