Who is the Ideal Jigsaw Phonics Learner?
Jigsaw Phonics with Kara is designed for children aged 4-7, whether based in the UK or worldwide, and is ideal for both native and non-native English speakers. The programme is especially beneficial for children with literacy challenges, including those on the dyslexia spectrum.

What Makes Jigsaw Phonics Effective?
Backed by evidence-based research, phonics interventions—teaching the connection between letters and sounds—can accelerate progress by 4-5 months over a year. (Source: Nature, Vol 605, 26 May 2022).

How Are Lessons Taught?
Jigsaw Phonics sessions are either 40 minutes long and taught online in small groups or 2x 30-minute sessions for 1:1 dyslexic children.  Our sessions provide a structured, cumulative approach to build literacy confidence and skills.

Flexible Options for Busy Families
I offer 40-minute or 2x 30-minute online sessions tailored to your child's age and needs. Lessons are scheduled after school during weekdays.

Mini Group Tutoring
Phonics tutoring for Reception and KS 1 children

What Is Mini-Group Tuition?

Mini-group tuition provides tailored support in small groups of up to 4 children. My sessions are specifically designed for children aged 4-7, focusing on phonics, reading, and literacy skills.

How Does Mini-Group Tutoring Work?

In these sessions, children are grouped based on their age, personality, and similar learning needs. With no more than 3-4 children per group, your child will receive personalised attention while enjoying the added benefits of learning alongside peers.

Mini-groups are perfect for KS1 children to build confidence, improve reading fluency, and stay engaged through fun, interactive lessons.

Small Group Tutoring

Benefits of small group tutoring with a Jigsaw Phonics Expert

Small-group tutoring can have so many advantages for your child, including:

1. Personalised attention:  small groups mean children get plenty of individualised attention and support. As a primary teacher with classes of 30+, I used the small group model to successfully increase achievement levels as I was able to give individual children lots of focused attention.

2. Peer interaction: children can learn from each other through group discussions and collaboration, enhancing their social skills like listening carefully, asking appropriate questions and taking turns.

3. Increased motivation:  children are spurred on by each other to learn and succeed as they help each other to do their best.

4. Improved understanding: children love explaining things to each other, and that deepens their own understanding. They also learn so much from questions they might not have thought to ask.

5. Making friends: children are highly social and the chance to make new friends and enjoy the change from established classroom dynamics is refreshing and motivating.

6. Effectiveness: unless your child needs especially high levels of support because they have specific learning needs, small-group tutoring is as effective as one-to-one tutoring.  Your child enjoys a less intense experience than one-to-one lessons but the outcomes will be the same.

One-to-One Tutoring

What Is One-to-One Tuition?

One-to-one tutoring gives your child personalised, focused support tailored to their unique learning needs.

How Does It Work?

In these sessions, I work with your child individually, providing specialised help. This is ideal for children with Dyslexia or those needing extra practice to build confidence and reach their potential.

I offer 1:1 sessions for children aged 7 and up.

One-to-one tutoring

Benefits of One-to-One Phonics Tutoring with a Primary Literacy Specialist

1:1 tutoring is the ideal choice for:

  • KS2 Children Working on Literacy Goals: If your child is preparing for SATs, tackling advanced comprehension, or needs focused support to build confidence in reading and writing, one-to-one sessions offer a tailored approach to meet their needs.

  • Children with Dyslexia: Struggling readers often benefit from working at their own pace with strategies suited to how they learn best. One-to-one support ensures your child gets the personalised help they need to thrive.

  • KS1 Children Who Need Extra Reading Practice: For children who need additional support alongside mini-group sessions, one-to-one tutoring focuses on fluency, phonics, and blending sounds to boost confidence and accelerate progress.
